ust because someone has something you want, it doesn’t mean they know how to help you get it.
This goes for anything – a particular body, wealth, good relationships, playing an instrument, food freedom, strength, or any skill for that matter.
Knowing what worked for you isn’t the same thing as coaching someone to an outcome.
When I first started coaching 10 years ago I gave people meal plans and exercise programs to follow. It worked so long as I was “coaching” them and they followed my plan.
But those clients would always come back to me months or years later needing my help again. It took me a while to come to accept that the lack of long-term success in my clients was my problem, not theirs.
That’s when I realized the difference between passing out information and coaching a person. Coaching is an art. It requires knowledge, experience, and the ability to integrate those assets into an individual so they can transform themselves.
Hiring a coach/mentor is the single greatest way to change yourself. It is one of the only true shortcuts in life to getting what you want.
A good coach can get you to your desired goal faster, with fewer mistakes, less struggles, more efficiently, and with more enjoyment. But you have to know what to look for in a coach or else your experience will be closer to reading a book than actually living the knowledge and incorporating it into your life.
