So many of us are trying to lose weight to get healthy.
But this is backwards.
If weight loss is going to happen, it’s going to be a side effect of improved health.
Why does this matter?
Because health behaviors are not the same thing as weight loss behaviors.
Health behaviors are healthy, and many times they lead to weight loss.
But weight loss behaviors tend to be neither healthy nor lead to weight loss in the end.
Instead, these behaviors are completely out of alignment with your body’s needs.
In the short term it appears they are healthy behaviors.
After all, you tend to be moving your body and eating more whole foods.
But since these behaviors are a means to an end, instead of tools to meet your needs of the moment, they rarely align with what your body needs.
You restrict, deprive, overexercise, and rely on willpower to get you through the day.
So they aren’t sustainable.
And that leads to a compensatory effect where you eventually end up overeating and becoming more sedentary.
For healthy behaviors to be healthy, they need to be sustainable.
And the way most people approach losing weight isn’t sustainable.
So weight loss behaviors? They are neither healthy, nor do they result in weight loss in the end.
But healthy behaviors? They are healthy. They meet your needs. They are sustainable.
And that’s what gives you the best chance of losing weight.
