Something we teach in our program is Permission-Based Exercise.
This is part of the framework we use to help people overcome their motivation struggles with exercise.
For many people, a lifetime of dieting has made them feel like exercise is something that they have to, need to, or should do.
This creates a disempowering dynamic with physical activity and turns it into an obligation.
And like most behaviors in our life that we have a choice to do – if we don’t enjoy it and it feels like another chore on our to-do list, we’re unlikely to stick with it consistently.
And that’s where Permission-Based Exercise comes into play.
The basis of it is simple – you have unconditional permission to do whatever you want for exercise, whenever you want to do it, in as much quantity as you want.
There are no “shoulds” or “have tos” or “is it enoughs” or any other pressures.
This helps you get to a place where you’re doing what you want to do, which helps you start creating new enjoyable experiences with physical activity.
It’s these positive experiences that then create a drive to want to move your body.
At that point, you’ve created a sustainable source of motivation where it’s more painful to not exercise, than it is to push yourself to do it.
