When I talk to people about their struggles, something I really try to drill home is that your weight is not the problem.
This isn’t always easy to understand, as it’s easy to associate a lifetime of physical and emotional pain surrounding your body to being a problem.
You want the problem fixed. I get it.
But here’s the thing…
Your body isn’t the problem – it’s a symptom.
It’s a symptom of 4 relationships – your relationships with food, body, exercise, and mind.
When you have dysfunction in those relationships, you are going to experience the symptoms.
This includes emotional eating, self-sabotage, food and body obsession, overeating at night, distrust around food, motivation struggles, and yes – weight gain.
Where you are in your health and fitness journey right now is a direct reflection of the health of your relationships with food, body, exercise, and mind.
If you’re experiencing negative symptoms, you have to get down to the root of the problem and fix things there.
That means to stop focusing on your weight (a symptom), and start healing those 4 relationships.
When you heal those relationships you relieve your symptoms and you naturally gravitate to your healthiest weight.
